Frequently asked questions

What is the Nuevo León Catálogo Homologado of special-handling waste?

It's Table 2 of the traceability technical guide issued by the Nuevo León Ministry of Environment (SMA), published in the Official State Gazette on September 9, 2026. It sorts special-handling waste into 15 groups and 39 codes (RCD, ORG, LPTAR, RGA, PC, MDR, TXT, RHC, TEC, RN, PLA, VID, RAS, MET and OR). The manifest states the code or the concept; anything not listed is classified by similarity with the closest entry.

What if I declare "cascajo", "basura" or "desperdicio" (rubble, trash, scrap)?

The guide doesn't accept those terms on the manifest: the waste is named with its catalog code or concept. "Cascajo" (rubble) usually maps to RCD-05 Escombro (mixed stone, block, brick, mortar, tile, ceramics, gypsum or drywall); plain excavated soil goes to RCD-01, and clean concrete to RCD-02 or RCD-03.

What if my waste might be hazardous?

The Catálogo Homologado only covers special-handling waste, and several descriptions explicitly exclude contaminated material: TXT-01 requires textiles "clean, free of oils and solvents", RGA-01 covers kitchen fats and oils "not mixed with solvents or hazardous substances" and TEC-02 excludes batteries with hazardous traits. Used lubricating oil, oil-soaked rags, lead-acid batteries or a drum that held chemicals need CRETIB characterization under NOM-052-SEMARNAT-2005 and, if hazardous, a federal manifest. This tool gives guidance; your environmental advisor or the SMA confirms the classification.
